Welcome from the 2011 President

“75 Years – What a Ride”…

75 years of fun, sweat, tears and joy have come and gone and the Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo continues to be the best in Texas. While events have changed since the first fair held in 1933, our mission remains true “Benefiting Youth, Promoting Agriculture and Supporting Education”, with a heavy emphasis on supporting education. Throughout the years, the efforts of the Fort Bend County Fair Association and its many valuable volunteers and sponsors, have contributed to the awarding of over 500 scholarships.

In writing this I am humbled and honored to serve as Fair president during such a milestone year. In 1933 when Dr. Cecil Greer and other board members first put together the Fort Bend County Fair, I am sure they never envisioned the magnitude that the Fair Association would grow and flourish. Every board member who served and serves the Fair Association has strived to carry on the mission and continue to make the next event better than the previous. The County Fair continues to be one of the highest attended county fairs in Texas and our goal is to continue to provide quality entertainment, rodeo and family fun.

But let’s not forget who brought us to this point, our many dedicated volunteers who give countless hours and their expertise in the planning and production of the County Fair, the sponsors who share in the underwriting of the fair and the families, adults and youth who anticipate and enjoy all the festivities that the fair brings to our community.

The youth of Fort Bend County, along with the support of their families’ and under the guidance of the 4-H clubs and FFA programs, exhibit projects in a variety of areas of livestock, food and nutrition, citizenship, leadership and much, much more. Watching the youth at their finest hour in which ever project they choose to compete in, validates the many hours of hard work and labor that our volunteers donate. These youth will become the future leaders of Fort Bend County, the State of Texas and our nation.

In closing, I would like to challenge you to help make the next 75 years of the Fort Bend County Fair just as special and ambitious as the first 75 fairs have been. Through volunteerism and financial support from members of the community, the Fort Bend County Fair Association will continue to assist the youth of Fort Bend County to achieve their goals of receiving a higher education and becoming contributing and productive adults to our community. We will have some exciting announcements on entertainment, rodeo and special events scheduled for the 75th Fort Bend County Fair, so stay in touch and stay involved. Remember, by supporting the youth of Fort Bend County you are actively participating in preparations for our future!!!

…WHAT A RIDE IT HAS BEEN!!!

Sincerely,

William Carter
