ROSENBERG - Preparations are well under way for the 72nd annual Fort Bend County Fair scheduled for September 26th through October 4th at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds in Rosenberg. This year, the fair celebrates its 72nd year of benefiting youth, promoting agriculture and supporting education with a tribute to many volunteers who devote their time and talents to the annual event. “Honoring Volunteers – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” will serve as the 2008 theme for this event that has provided nearly $10 million in scholarships and auctions to support youth education in Fort Bend County.

The fair hosts many opportunities for youth to compete to receive both prizes and scholarships and registration for the coming year has already begun. Deadlines to enter the 2008 Fort Bend County Fair contests and events are:

Contests

Ag Mechanics: September 19th
Parade: September 2nd
BBQ Cook-Off: August 29th
Talent Contest: September 12th
Ranch Rodeo: September 27th
Queen Contestant Mandatory Meeting: August 10th

Livestock Departments

Broilers: Order Deadline-May 5th; Delivery-August 13th
Commercial Heifers: Pen of Two/Halter Heifer Tag In-May 10th; Record Book Turn In-September 5th; Veterinarian Pregnancy Verification Statement-No Earlier Than August 25th.
Goats, Lambs & Swine: Tag In-July 12th
Rabbits: Suggested Breed Date -June 12th; Tattoo/Entry Date-August 21st
Roasters: Order Deadline-May 5th; Delivery-July 30th
Turkeys: Order Deadline-April 7th; Delivery-June 4th
Scramble Heifer: Essay Contest-September 5th; Entry Applications-September 13th
