- The 72nd annual Fort Bend County Fair, scheduled for September 26
through October 4, 2008, has awarded thirty area high school seniors
$2,000 scholarships to continue their education at Texas
universities. The $60,000 in scholarships, funded by proceeds from
the 2007 Fort Bend County Fair and the Fort Bend County Fair Life
Membership fund, were awarded to students residing in Fort Bend
County based on their scholastic standing, leadership, citizenship,
need and Fair participation in agricultural organizations. Six
scholarships are categorized as open and vocational and do not
require Fair participation in agricultural groups.
“Awarding scholarships to deserving, hard-working Fort Bend County
seniors is a highlight of the Fair each year,” said Bobby Slavinski,
Fair Director in charge of the Scholarship Program. “This program
allows us to realize our mission of benefiting youth, promoting
agriculture and supporting education.”
Since 1979, the Fort Bend County Fair has awarded 460 scholarships
to students, and this year’s recipients were awarded their
scholarships at a Scholarship Reception held on May 28, 2008 at the
Fort Bend County Fairgrounds. Fair President Bill Dostal awarded the
