- The search for the 2008 Fort Bend County Fair Queen has begun for
young ladies between the ages of 15 and 19 years. Contestants
interested in participating in this year’s competition have until
August 10th to sign up and compete for prizes including scholarships
and trophy buckles. Contestants must be residents of Fort Bend
County and participate in the pre-sales of Fair entrance tickets as
part of the competition. Contestants will also be judged in personal
activities, personality, appearance, interview skills and fair
participation.
“The Queen Competition is one of many events that enable the Fort
Bend County Fair to uphold our longstanding tradition of supporting
area youth,” said Elizabeth Duff-Drozd, Fair Director heading up the
contest and style show. “These young ladies work very hard for
several weeks to earn scholarships to further their education, and
it is a privilege to be a part of this important program. We look
forward to bringing this exciting competition once again to our
youth and encourage all eligible young ladies to participate.”
Young ladies interested in participating in the Fair Queen Contest
must attend a mandatory meeting on Sunday, August 10th at 2 p.m. at
Safari Texas Ranch located at 11627 FM 1464 in Richmond. Contestants
must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and complete a
Registration Form to enter the competition. Registration Forms will
be available at the meeting and both Contest Rules and Registration
Forms are available by contacting the Fair office at 281.342.6171 or
online under “Contests” at www.fbcfa.org.
Queen contestants will be highlighted in the Fort Bend County Fair
Style Show & Luncheon scheduled for 11:30 am on Saturday, August
23rd at Safari Texas Ranch in Richmond. A panel of judges will score
contestants on showmanship, appearance, poise and interview skills
during the event. Contestants will receive professional wardrobe
consultation along with hair and make-up.
Tickets to the Style Show & Luncheon are $40 and the event includes
a Trunk Show beginning at 10:30 a.m. featuring several unique
vendors and hand-passed mimosas for the guests. Proceeds from the
event benefit the Fort Bend County Fair, a non-profit organization
dedicated to benefiting youth, promoting agriculture and supporting
education.
